The Muzzled Voice

Politics aside…

So this morning I woke up to a snow covered existence outside, stretched, yawned, grabbed my robe and took a nice warm shower. Afterwards, I plopped myself at the computer and began working. I started getting hungry, since my last meal was at 5 PM last night. I didn’t want a big breakfast; I didn’t even want a slice of toast like I usually do. Instead, I wanted a bowl of dry cereal to have with my glass of milk. So I got up, waddled to the kitchen and opened the cabinet door. Out of all the boxes of cereal we had, I chose the Jewel brand of “Crunchy Corn Squares”, the generic version of Corn Chex. What I saw on the back of the box STUNNED me! I was utterly appalled!!

“Family UNPLUGGED” it read, in fun, retro letters. “Imagine all the things you could do instead of watching television! Unplug the tube and grab your family,” the box informed. So…what can you do if you turn off the TV and spend time with your family? Well, it went on:

“You could…volunteer your time at a soup kitchen. Work on a jigsaw puzzle. Try a new recipe. Go for a walk. Play catch. Arrange photos into a family scrapbook. Plan a day trip. Research your family tree. Play board games. Or…clean out your closets and hold a family yard sale. Ride bikes. Fly kites. Plant some flowers. Go for a drive. Play cards. Go on a picnic. Play charades. Catch fireflies. Go bowling. Roller blade. Ice skate.”

So I take the box out to the living room and scream, “Can you believe this?” to Jared and his mother. They both look at me, surprised by my outburst. And I read the box to them out loud. They look at me blankly. Jared’s not surprised, nor is he outraged. Timi, Jared’s mother, finally gets it after I explain what this box means.

The ideas on the box sound great, right? So why am I so outraged by this box? (First of all, let me first state, KUDOS to Jewel for putting something so brave and yet so ordinary on the back of their box.) I’m not upset with Jewel and the box, per say, what I’m angered about is the mere fact that ANYONE has to tell us–on a cereal box of all things–how to “be” a family! And who is the audience of the Back of the Box? It’s our children. It’s kids who don’t KNOW what a family is. It’s geared to teach CHILDREN what a family SHOULD be doing. But this is what we’ve become. Complacent. Lazy. Numb.

To me, all of these things listed on the Back of the Box were GIVENS! It just makes sense. And I wasn’t concerned that someone else was telling me how to be a family, because I already knew these things. I had already done these very things with Josh when he was growing up, and we still do some of these things! I plan on doing ALL of these things with Tavin and Jared. In fact, I can’t wait!!

What I don’t understand is a family who DOESN’T do these things. What I don’t get is the fact that a cereal company has to spell it out for 80% of society today. As I continued to hold the box up to Jared and Timi, ranting on and on about this injustice, I played a scenario out for them: “Hey dad, look at the Back of the Box. It says we should do…” And the dad literally pushes the child out of the view of the TV and says, “Not now, Bobby, I’m watching the game. We’ll do all those things some other time when daddy’s not so busy.”

Now Jared wasn’t outraged for one reason: When we see what we see out in the world today, and we encounter children and families out in public, we can literally SEE that the family unit is broken! We can see the children vying for their parents attention and affection. It’s everywhere. It’s overwhelming. It’s a shame! Granted we all see it, day in and day out, but the Back of the Box really confirmed my suspicions about what’s happening in the world.

The Back of the Box is politely and attractively telling us to get off our lazy butts and pay attention to our children! And what about the poor child who reads the Back of the Box and desperately wants to do these things with a parent who is unwilling to take the time to do them? What really disturbs me is that the child who sees this list and thinks, “This would be so much fun,” but has no idea what it truly means to be a family who does things together, or worse yet, realizes that even if he were to show the Back of the Box to his parents, it may not ever happen that way.

Why does the outside world have to explain the very basics of life to us? Why isn’t it common sense anymore? Why are people having children in the first place, if they don’t take the time to BE a family? The world is breaking down because the family is broken. There’s no true sense of the word anymore.

I recently started volunteering at a food shelter called Angel Food Ministries (http://www.angelfoodministries.com/). It’s a nationwide, non-profit organization offering wide varieties of monthly food menus to low income families at a very low cost…but it’s also available to ANYONE! There are no limitations or requirements.

I got involved for one reason: to be an example to Tavin. To show him that in order to make a real difference in the world, you need to be the kind of person who is willing to do what it takes to actually make a difference. Talking about it isn’t enough. Explaining to our children that it’s important to help the needy, while walking away from a homeless person who is cold and hungry, isn’t setting the right example. But by DOING it–by caring with our actions–we are teaching our children the real values, the real ethics, of humanity and compassion.

Angel Food Ministries isn’t my only outlet. I’ve volunteered my name to become a board member for Angel Food Ministries and to further help the cause of the homeless. I’m also going to reorganize the Kenosha County Republican Women’s Group, and although it’s a political group, the example I will be setting for Tavin is to stand up for what he believes in, and take an active role to have his voice heard. He may not grow up to be a Republican, and that’ll be just fine with me. As long as he’s not just a Talker, but a real Doer, in what he believes as his core foundation…that’s all that will truly matter to me.

Being a parent does take time. But that’s something we should all realize before we even make the “choice” to BE a parent! No longer does your career/job take first place, nor does your spouse/significant other. That child is now your first and foremost priority in life! YOU need to be the example. YOU need to be the love–all the love in the world–that he/she needs. YOU need to be the person to teach them right and wrong, not the school system, not the church, and NOT the outside world, like the Back of the Box. It is up to YOU to BE the family your child so desperately needs to become a good person in this dark, cruel world–to help BE a light in the world. Show your children. Don’t just talk about it. Be a family. Be a strong family unit that the world just can’t touch!

Okay, so he asked for it: another blog. Here it is.

I’ve been trying to muzzle myself lately. The absolute outrage I feel over the last few weeks over the stimulus package has put me in a position to act.

I began to write Senators across the board, asking them to reconsider the stipulations in this bill. I also found a few websites (that I should have shared, and I apologize for not doing so) that offered petitions against the spending package proposed by Pelosi and her liberal goons. Upon feeling such disgrace with the American “support” of this bill, I also decided I needed to become much more pro-active than merely writing blogs that many people really don’t read anyway (aside from a few close friends, or maybe just Jared).

Moving back to Kenosha, WI, I wanted to get involved with the Kenosha County Republican Women’s Group, but found out that they were no longer active. I gladly discovered that the former President of the group had moved on to bigger and better things, like becoming an Alderman here in Kenosha. As I stated my sense of urgency to the former members and the current President of the Wisconsin Federation of Republican Women, I was then asked if I would be willing to take over the roll of President for the Kenosha group and reorganize members/membership. So I’ve been working on putting all of these things into place.

All in all, I’m disgusted by the whole process, and the way our voices are not being heard anymore. So what do we do? How can we resolve this crisis? And when will it ever change?

As the bill has been currently “approved” by Democrats and a mere 3 Republicans (RINOS-Republicans in name only), I’m saddened that this isn’t a bill that will truly stimulate our economy, but instead is a sneaky, manipulative move on the liberals part to start implementing policies without American’s knowledge or approval.

And speaking of approval, how is something this important only approved by a select few? How about the opinions of those who this will truly affect? No matter how much we protested, those Senators did what THEY wanted to do…without listening to anyone. Why? Because they are trying to blind sight us with their aggressive, destructive agendas. And the only ones who will suffer will be the average Americans who have been suffering long enough!

One thing that has bothered me the most during this whole process has been Obama’s lack of governing, and his dire need to continue campaigning–because it’s all he knows how to do. Proof is in the pudding: he put Nancy Pelosi in charge of WRITING the stimulus package! He had no part in writing it. But because he’s such a great campaigner–and has no real experience in governing–liberals took it upon themselves to do the dirty work and pushed Obama out the door insisting he “sell it” to Americans.

Throughout his campaign to get Americans on board, he continued to spew more egomaniacal garbage about how “he won” and “Americans spoke in November”. Well, little does Obama realize that most of Americans did not vote HIM in, they voted against someone else. Most Americans voted with hate in their hearts. They voted against Republicans, not for Obama. They voted for his rhetoric, not his experience. They voted because he spoke well, because he used all the right slogans and jargons. Hope and Change. But no one really knew what that meant. How could they? Obama never informed us. He didn’t have a plan…just words.

And that’s how we got into this whole mess. Americans were ignorant at the polls. Studies proved that during the election that many people didn’t even KNOW what Obama stood for. If strangers were asked on the street if they supported Obama’s policies, but were actually given McCain’s issues on certain policies, these idiots said, “I totally agree with those things, and that’s why I’m voting for Obama.” They didn’t even know what any of the issues were. They let the media brainwash them into thinking that Bush–and really any Republican figure–was the enemy and that Obama was the messiah. That he would save the day. That Obama would take care of them. Support them. Coddle them. Be the modern day Robin Hood.

But the media wouldn’t allow us to know the real Obama. They protected him. They coddled HIM. They supported him. They made him the monster he is today. They didn’t ask the tough questions that McCain was asked. They overlooked the horrific past of Obama’s associates, while degrading McCain on any issue they possibly could. They called out McCain when he would try to discuss real issues about and against Obama, making him look cruel and mean to the Savior of the World, like Pontus Pilate ready to crucify Christ.

No one knows anything about Obama. We really don’t, and if you say you do, you’re only lying to justify your vote for him. Obama is the only President who can get away with telling reporters, “I’m not answering that…you’re just playing games now….You’re just twisting my words.” When they are not. They are asking real questions about the decisions he has been making.

And let’s not forget the ridiculous choices he has made in critical roles in his administration. If this had been Bush making these terrible decisions, first of all, these guys would have never been confirmed, and Bush would have been ridiculed as being irresponsible and plotting some catastrophe against America.

This has been a one-sided freak show. The Obama Show. It’s been an Obamanation. I wouldn’t be surprised if in the near future our country will be renamed Obamaland. A woman tells Obama she needs a new home, and BAM, she gets a new home. A Burger King worker wants to know if Obama will find a way for him to get him promoted, and in the process screams out, raising his hands to heaven, praising Obama like a god who can save him from his fast food trap.

But guess who’s getting lost in the system? You are. We are. We will suffer greatly. Within three weeks of his Presidency, we are already suffering. Blame Bush if that makes you feel better, but the reality is, Obama didn’t miraculously fix the world on Day One. It got worse. The day Tim Geithner said there would be problems, and they would make mistakes—this guy who would also “save the day”—the Dow was down 400 points.

What can I say that you don’t already know? You know this isn’t a real “stimulus” package. You know this won’t create jobs that will truly help the economy. You know this bill is stuffed with pork to fill politicians’ pockets with junk that is unnecessary to our economic well being. You know this bill doesn’t really help me or you. And you know this bill will only leave us financially devastated for generations to come. But most people don’t care. Most people didn’t try to stop it. Most people trusted government over logic and reason. Most people didn’t even listen. Most people will only sit back and complain about it when it all falls apart…and they’ll find a convenient way to continue blaming Bush and Republicans.

And for those who never did anything to stop this, for those of you who sat back and watched the world as we know it crumble around us in bits and pieces…well, shame on you! I don’t care if you’re “not political.” Does that mean you don’t care what happens to you in the next few years, or what happens to your children’s future? Standing up for what’s right is not political. It is your responsibility. And when the people we have entrusted to do the right things don’t, then it’s time to take that responsibility to the polls and find someone who’s willing to truly listen to the voices of America! Stop using politics as an excuse in not being responsible for this country’s success. Stop insinuating that it doesn’t matter. Stop complaining and start acting. Because ultimately…it does affect every single one of us…one way or another.

Don’t you DARE say anything bad about Barack Obama! Or else…

That’s the change most Dems have been waiting for: to shut down conservative radio and to shut up conservative criticism.

Obama recently told the Republican leaders, “You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done.” Already Obama is telling conservatives what to do and how NOT to do it. Although Obama claims that he doesn’t support the Fairness (Censorship) Doctrine, this is the first step he is initiating in getting Dems pumped up for a fight…and a fight we are getting.

As Republicans have been taking potshots for the past seven years, and listening to the most horrific lies and slanderous remarks about President Bush, the Democrats are not going to take ANYONE talking bad about THIS President. “The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has launched an online petition for readers to express their outrage at conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh for saying last week that he wanted President Barack Obama to fail.” (http://cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=42616)

According to DCCC Executive Director Brian Wolff, “Limbaugh’s cheap shot at President Obama might be the first by the Republican attack machine this year but we know that it won’t be the last. We need every grassroots Democrat to show Rush Limbaugh and all of the Republicans what they’re up against if they start attacking President Obama and Democrats who are working to end the failed GOP policies of the last eight years.”

Republicans have witnessed and experienced some of the worse mistreatments of any President in our history. We’ve seen “Smush Bush” dolls, “Not My President” t-shirts, songs called, “President Evil-Bush Trance”, and even books and documentaries on how to kill President Bush such as the movie, “Death of a President.”

What no one seems to understand about President Bush–or cares to admit–is that most of the REAL issues Americans had with him were inherited problems left by Clinton: bin Laden and the economic crisis that began in the last year of Clinton’s second term. Bush was just an easy target. Everyone wanted to continue hailing Clinton as a hero, regardless of his gutless approach to terrorism, and the way he humiliated our country and his family with his countless affairs. “Who cares about any of that!” Dems cried. “Clinton lied, but no one died,” bumper stickers claimed.

And here we are today, yet again, Republicans take the heat for everything. Obama wanted to shut down ANYONE who had anything negative to say about him during the election campaign–and the media allowed it. Obama is the ONLY President in history who can get away with telling a journalist, “I’m not going to answer that, because, see, you’re just playing games,” (as he told a reporter who asked him about appointing Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State after slamming her for her inexperience in such matters during the primaries). How many times will we keep allowing Obama to tell US, “I’m not going to answer that”? The media would have NEVER let Bush get away with such trickery and deception. When Bush told the truth, the media called it lies. When Obama tells lies, the media calls it slander on the part of Republicans. No one wants to hear it. No one wants to believe it.

When it comes to Rush’s comment that he wants Obama to fail, he was speaking of his policies–as most Republicans hope for, because we don’t want to see our country wrecked by socialism. We’re already watching the most corrupt media in modern time take sides, have orgasmic encounters on TV, and weeping over Obama (Read: A Slobbering Love Affair: The True (And Pathetic) Story of the Torrid Romance Between Barack Obama and the Mainstream Media by Bernard Goldberg). If ever there were a time in history when one party was being censored and shunned, it’s the Dems trying to shut us up and KEEP us quiet. It was okay and perfectly fine for THEM to say harmful and ridiculous lies about Bush, but now that the shoe is on the other foot, they will do whatever is necessary to make sure we won’t say anything bad about their Golden Child.

While the Dems want you to believe that they are working for the “good of the people”, they only mean those who agree with them. When you disagree with them, they will go out of their way to shut you down. They don’t want you to know the truth, or their true motives. They don’t want you to be educated and to think for yourself. They want to control you and tell you how it is and how it will be. And watch out if you say or do anything to reveal their real motives…because they fear you will find out how phony they truly are, right along with Barack Obama.

But what can you do? They will stop you at every corner. They will monopolize the media and continue to brainwash you. Everyone screamed and cried over Bush’s Patriot Act, but no one seems to care that the Dems are truly our worst enemies when it comes to privacy, free speech, and choice. As Republicans, our options are now: Shut-up, or be shut down.

Welcome to your new beginnings and your world of change.
